The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa has held firm against Eskom’s 7% annual salary increases over the next three years, despite the National Union of Mineworkers and Solidarity signing the wage deal.
Solidarity secretary-general Gideon Du Plessis says that most Eskom workers are earning well below the average annual cost per employee of R1.027 million.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa has rejected Eskom’s latest wage offer and declared a deadlock.
The demand comes despite Eskom already having paid additional short-term incentives to reward workers’ for improving plant performance.
