Gold was little changed at $4 327.33 an ounce as of 10:46 a.m. in London, up about 0.7% for the week.
China weaponised its chokehold on critical minerals earlier this year as its trade spat with the US ramped up.
Spot gold was up almost 1% at $3 580.06 an ounce as of 1:57 p.m. in London.
Copper was up 0.4% at $9 939.50 a ton on the London Metal Exchange as of 11:29 a.m. local time.
Bullion climbed as much as 0.6% before paring some gains to trade near $3 376 an ounce.
